Shane Rayman is a founding partner of Rayman Harris LLP. Shane’s practice has been focused on achieving outstanding results for his clients in the area of expropriations law and property rights litigation. Shane’s practice also includes commercial litigation, regulatory and administrative matters, professional negligence claims and professional discipline proceedings.

In addition to having appeared before all levels of court in Ontario and the Federal Court of Canada, Shane was senior counsel for the Appellant in Antrim Truck Centre v. Ministry of Transportation on appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada where the Court rendered a unanimous decision in his client’s favour. Shane acted as counsel for the Canadian Home Builders’ Association as an intervenor before the Supreme Court in Annapolis Group v. Halifax in 2022 and in 2023 City of St. John’s v. Lynch. Shane also appears regularly before the Ontario Land Tribunal and represents approximately 350 expropriated owners throughout Ontario.

Shane received a B.A. in Economics from York University in 1996. He graduated with an LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1999, where he was awarded the Matthew Wilson Memorial Scholarship for standing third overall in a class of 300 in his final year of studies. Shane was called to the Ontario Bar in 2001.

Shane is a past president of the Ontario Expropriation Association and has been a director since 2006. Shane currently serves as a director of the Greater Toronto Airport Authority Consultative Committee. Shane is the Canadian member of the Owners’ Council of America, an invitation only network of the most experienced eminent domain and property rights attorneys who seek to advance, preserve and defend the rights of private property owners and thereby further the cause of liberty. Shane was recently named Lawyer of the Year for 2023 by Best Lawyers for expropriation lawyers in Ontario.

Shane has presented on various topics relating to his expertise before the Ontario Expropriation Association, the American Law Institute Continuing Legal Education (ALI-CLE National Eminent Domain Conference), the Canadian Bar Association, the International Right of Way Association, the Advocates’ Society, the Appraisal Institute of Canada, the New Brunswick Association of Real Estate Appraisers, the Ministry of Housing and Rural Development of the People’s Republic of China and various professional development conferences on Eminent Domain Law in the United States. Shane has also authored over 15 papers on expropriations law and related topics.
